BaptismMore than 100,000 Britons have recently downloaded “certificates of de-baptism” from the Internet to renounce their Christian faith.

States rebel against Washington

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

The pushback against federal power began under Bush, but may now be accelerating.

Atlanta – There’s an old joke in South Carolina: Confederate President Jefferson Davis may have surrendered at the Burt-Stark mansion in Abbeville, S.C., in 1865, but the people of state Rep. Michael Pitts’s district never did.

With revolutionary die-hards behind him, Mr. Pitts has fired a warning shot across the bow of the Washington establishment. As the writer of one of 28 state “sovereignty bills” – one even calls for outright dissolution of the Union if Washington doesn’t rein itself in – Pitts is at the forefront of a states’ rights revival, reasserting their say on everything from stem cell research to the Second Amendment.

South Korea on alert

Friday, March 27th, 2009

South Korean Destroyer SejongJEJU, South Korea – South Korea’s premier warship, the destroyer Sejong, equipped with the latest United States-designed Aegis counter-missile guidance system, is cruising near this island off the southern Korean coast en route to the waters of the East Sea for defense against North Korea’s fearsome Taepodong-2 long-range missile.

The deployment of the Sejong from the southern to the eastern side of the Korean Peninsula highlights the alarm with which South Korea views North Korea’s determination to show off its prowess in modern weaponry. The North claims it is capable of raining weapons of mass destruction as far as the US west coast – and all over South Korea and Japan.

Space Storm Alert: 90 Seconds From Catastrophe

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

IT IS midnight on 22 September 2012 and the skies above Manhattan are filled with a flickering curtain of colorful light. Few New Yorkers have seen the aurora this far south but their fascination is short-lived. Within a few seconds, electric bulbs dim and flicker, then become unusually bright for a fleeting moment. Then all the lights in the state go out. Within 90 seconds, the entire eastern half of the US is without power.

A year later and millions of Americans are dead and the nation’s infrastructure lies in tatters. The World Bank declares America a developing nation. Europe, Scandinavia, China and Japan are also struggling to recover from the same fateful event – a violent storm, 150 million kilometers away on the surface of the sun.

Americans Largely Silent as Their Nation is Systematically Destroyed

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

Shattered USA FlagAfter trillions in taxpayer debt has been foolishly poured into the black hole of leftist wealth redistribution programs, under the guise of economic “stimulus” or “stabilization” legislation, the new “ONE World” government running Washington DC announces; Geithner, Bernanke Call for New Wind-Down Powers After AIG… and the people still sit silent as they watch Obamanation grow in unbridled power.

Geithner Asks Congress for even Broader Power to Seize private Firms as the average American stumbles through their daily routine as if nothing is happening. Canada Free Press managing editor Judi McLeod writes No cheerleader for propping up greenback at G20 summit asking, “Is the table being set for One World Government rather than speeding the recovery of the worldwide recession at next week’s G20 London summit?”

Obamanation has taken the nation from a trillion in debt to over $4 trillion in debt in the first sixty days, with even more federal spending promised, which could put the nation $10 trillion in debt before the 2010 mid-term election cycle. Amnesty for illegals and ACORN led redistricting will make 2010 and beyond a moot point.

U.S. Taking Steps to Control Violence on the Mexican Border

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration on Tuesday announced sharp increases in the number of federal agents and the use of high technology along the Mexican border, as part of a series of steps aimed as much at preventing violence from spilling into the United States as at stemming the flow of drugs and money.

“The president is concerned by the increased level of violence, particularly in Ciudad Juarez and Tijuana, and the impact that it is having on the communities on both sides of the border,” said a White House statement released shortly before a formal announcement.

Terence Corcoran: Is this the end of America?

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

U.S. law-making is riddled with slapdash, incompetence and gamesmanship

Helicopter Ben Bernanke’s Federal Reserve is dropping trillions of fresh paper dollars on the world economy, the President of the United States is cracking jokes on late night comedy shows, his energy minister is threatening a trade war over carbon emissions, his treasury secretary is dithering over a banking reform program amid rising concerns over his competence and a monumentally dysfunctional U.S. Congress is launching another public jihad against corporations and bankers.

As an aghast world — from China to Chicago and Chihuahua — watches, the circus-like U.S. political system seems to be declining into near chaos. Through it all, stock and financial markets are paralyzed. The more the policy regime does, the worse the outlook gets. The multi-ringed spectacle raises a disturbing question in many minds: Is this the end of America?

The collapse of manufacturing

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

The financial crisis has created an industrial crisis. What should governments do about it?

$0.00, not counting fuel and handling: that is the cheapest quote right now if you want to ship a container from southern China to Europe. Back in the summer of 2007 the shipper would have charged $1,400. Half-empty freighters are just one sign of a worldwide collapse in manufacturing. In Germany December’s machine-tool orders were 40% lower than a year earlier. Half of China’s 9,000 or so toy exporters have gone bust. Taiwan’s shipments of notebook computers fell by a third in the month of January. The number of cars being assembled in America was 60% below January 2008.

The destructive global power of the financial crisis became clear last year. The immensity of the manufacturing crisis is still sinking in, largely because it is seen in national terms—indeed, often nationalistic ones. In fact manufacturing is also caught up in a global whirlwind.
