The Sombrero Galaxy in Infrared
This floating ring is the size of a galaxy. In fact, it is part of the photogenic Sombrero Galaxy, one of the largest galaxies in the nearby Virgo Cluster of Galaxies. The dark band of dust that obscures the mid-section of the Sombrero Galaxy in optical light actually glows brightly in infrared light. The above image shows the infrared glow, recently recorded by the orbiting Spitzer Space Telescope, superposed in false-color on an existing image taken by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope in optical light. The Sombrero Galaxy, also known as M104, spans about 50,000 light years across and lies 28 million light years away. M104 can be seen with a small telescope in the direction of the constellation Virgo.

China's clutter is not
lost in space
In blowing up one of its orbiting satellites, China created a vast debris cloud that heightens concerns about the growing threat space junk poses to spacecraft and the expanding networks of weather and communication satellites.
The blast, which occurred Jan. 11 and was confirmed by U.S. officials Thursday, spread material across 2,000 miles of space, said Harvard astronomer Jonathan McDowell. The Union of Concerned Scientists estimated that there are nearly 800 debris fragments 10 centimeters or larger and perhaps 2 million smaller pieces that can also cause damage because they travel at high speeds.

Major Quake Hits Northeastern Indonesia
Given the size of the earthquake, we think a basin-wide tsunami isn't likely, though a local tsunami could be possible A 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck Sunday about 30 miles under the Molucca Sea in northeastern Indonesia, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The epicenter of the major quake was about 80 miles from the city of Ternate, in north eastern Indonesia, it said. It had a depth of more than six miles below the ocean floor.

There are those, thanks to our educational hierarchy and many of the educated morons of our scientific community, who believe that the human species has a direct lineal connection to a lovesick amoeba, which oozed from a primordial soup and morphed from its primitive one-cell state into a series of ever ascending species of creatures, until at last it came into that wonderfully bipedal human form of being with a brain of capabilities, which far surpass our most sophisticated computers. The wonder here is how supposedly intelligent people could embrace such an absolutely ignorant supposition, while at the same time rejecting the Biblical account of creation. These people seem to be living proof that Darwin’s hypothesis was reversed; it is men who turn into monkeys. That can be the only explanation for such convoluted rationally incomprehensible thinking. Or could it be that the thinking is not irrational at all, and that this is a part of a master plan for the complete subjugation of the people by a new world order?
That the foundation of this nation was based upon Biblical principles cannot be denied. This contention can be argued against, it can be attacked by demagogues, and the unknowledgeable, misinformed, and uniformed can deny it, but the cold hard fact is that it is supported incontrovertibly. Even a cursory reading of the Declaration of Independence, the preamble to the Constitution, and the Constitution itself contradicts any other argument or conclusion. The great majority of our founding fathers understood God’s Word, and believed in God’s Word. And they put His word to practice in their lives.

Japan, China plan military port exchange
TOKYO - Japan and China are hoping to send warships to each other's ports for courtesy calls soon to help ease tensions between the two Asian giants, an official said Monday.
The visit by Chinese warships to Japan would be unprecedented, according to a Defense Ministry official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the plan has not yet been finalized.
Officials on both sides agreed in November to promote the port calls and are hoping to see them happen "as soon as possible," the official said.

Australia faces snake menace as drought bites
CANBERRA, Jan 22 (Reuters) - Australians are facing an increasing snake menace as searing weather bites and the country's worst drought in a generation rolls on.
A 16-year-old boy died in Sydney a week ago after being bitten by an Eastern Brown snake -- one of the world's deadliest -- while in Darwin another brown snake killed a man in his suburban garden.
