Ebola-like virus killing fish in Great Lakes

lake-ontario-fishermenA deadly Ebola-like virus is killing fish of all types in the Great Lakes, a development some scientists fear could trigger disaster for the USA's freshwater fish.

Because of a lack of genetic resistance to viral hemorrhagic septicemia, fish populations could be damaged in the same way the smallpox virus struck Native Americans and Dutch elm disease decimated elm trees, says Jim Winton, chief of fish health at the U.S. Geological Survey in Seattle.

Pentagon Report Says China's January Missile Test on Satellite, Other Actions Cause for Concern

chinese-satelitte-shotdown

WASHINGTON — China's recent success at destroying a satellite in low-Earth orbit is a threat to the interests of all space-faring nations and posed dangers to human space flight, the Pentagon said Friday.

In its annual report on Chinese military developments, the Pentagon also said the People's Liberation Army is building a greater capacity to launch pre-emptive strikes. It cited as examples China's acquisition of long-endurance submarines, unmanned combat aircraft and additional precision-guided air-to-ground missiles.

Al-Qaeda trying to go nuclear

Former top UN weapons inspector: Jihadis searching for nuclear technology to create massive destruction

al-zawahiriLUXEMBOURG - Al-Qaeda is searching for ways to create nuclear weapons for mass destruction, a former UN weapons inspection chief said during a press conference at an international convention ways to prevent a nuclear catastrophe being held in Luxembourg.

Rolf Ekeus, currently High Commissioner at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), and formerly Director of the UN Special Commission on Iraq, told reporters that the threat of a nuclear attack on a European city by al-Qaeda was tangible, and that steps are being taken to protect nuclear facilities from which terrorists can obtain enriched uranium.

"Al-Qaeda is searching for nuclear technology," Ekeus said. "They are looking for simple weapons... for mass destruction," he added.

IRAN AND THE US TALK

Now, that wasn't so bad ...

iran-us-talksFinally some good news for US-Iran diplomacy, stranded on the rocky road of seemingly intractable hostilities and suspicions for nearly three decades. US and Iranian diplomats in Baghdad, meeting "businesslike" at the office of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki to discuss Iraq's security on Monday, reported solid progress, even a "broad policy agreement" on Iraq, and will likely meet again in the near future.

According to Nicholas Burns of the US State Department, the American people should prepare themselves for a normalization of relations with Iran. He said the US is on the verge of sending an ambassador to Libya, has a "high-ranking diplomat in Cuba" and is even talking with Zimbabwe's Robert Mugabe, so why not Iran?

Chinese Poison Train Declared Unstoppable: Next Stop, You!

U.S. market flooded with foods unfit for humans, tainted with carcinogens, pesticides, bacteria, drugs

china-shippingWASHINGTON – While Americans are still recovering from a scandal over poison pet foods imported from China, FDA inspectors report tainted food imports intended for American humans are being rejected with increasing frequency because they are filthy, are contaminated with pesticides and tainted with carcinogens, bacteria and banned drugs.

Last month, like most months, China topped the list of countries whose products were refused by the FDA – and that list includes many countries, including Mexico and Canada, who export far more food products to the U.S. than China.

Venus Near the Moon

The two brightest objects in the night sky appeared to go right past each other last week. On the night of May 19, Earth's Moon and the planet Venus were visible in the same part of the sky, and at closest approach were less than one degree apart. The conjunction was captured in the above image taken from near Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. Venus appears on the lower left of the above photo. The spires that appear to emanate from Venus are diffraction spikes caused by the camera itself. The image is so clear that craters on the Moon are resolved. Of course, the real physical distance between the two heavenly bodies was not unusually small -- the apparent conjunction was really just an illusion of perspective. Although Earth's Moon passes Venus once each month, such a close passing visible in the evening sky is more rare.

The "Mysterious Bee Killer"

pesticdesThe Bee Research Lab at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is referring to whatever is decimating honey bee populations worldwide as an "unknown pathogen," stating that studies are pointing "to some kind of a disease or parasite," The Associated Press reported recently.

The AP reported that, before beekeepers in 27 U.S. states, Brazil, Canada and Europe were reporting incidence of what is being called colony collapse disorder (CCD), bee populations had been steadily shrinking, "...mainly because their genes do not equip them to fight poisons and disease very well and because their gregarious nature tends to expose them to different ailments."

Emergency detention plan: 'This way to the camps!'

Directive from Bush allows president extraordinary powers in national crisis

homeland-securityHalliburton's former engineering and construction subsidiary has a contingency contract with the Department of Homeland Security to construct detention facilities in the event of a national emergency, according to WND columnist Jerome Corsi.

As Corsi reported last week, President Bush recently signed a little-reported National Security and Homeland Security Directive granting extraordinary powers to the president in the event of a declared national emergency, apparently without congressional approval or oversight.

Thousands Flee Violence in Lebanon

Misery Doubles in Refugee Camp As Thousands Flee Violence Between Lebanese Army, Militants

In this lice-infested Palestinian refugee camp where showers are a luxury, some 250 men and boys raced to get in line for a haircut recently.

Beddawi already was cramped before refugees from the nearby Nahr el-Bared camp began packing into schools and mosques and moving in with relatives here.

Adam and Eve in the Land of the Dinosaurs

creation-museumPETERSBURG, Ky. — The entrance gates here are topped with metallic Stegosauruses. The grounds include a giant tyrannosaur standing amid the trees, and a stone-lined lobby sports varied sauropods. It could be like any other natural history museum, luring families with the promise of immense fossils and dinosaur adventures.

But step a little farther into the entrance hall, and you come upon a pastoral scene undreamt of by any natural history museum. Two prehistoric children play near a burbling waterfall, thoroughly at home in the natural world. Dinosaurs cavort nearby, their animatronic mechanisms turning them into alluring companions, their gaping mouths seeming not threatening, but almost welcoming, as an Apatosaurus munches on leaves a few yards away.

WHO WILL RULE SPACE?

space=walk

Who will rule Space? World leaders know the first nation to conquer SPACE will RULE THE WORLD!

Fantastic advances are made almost daily in the race to send men to the moon but what does it all mean?

WHY the expenditure of BILLIONS on the Space race? Is Space exploration only innocent "science" seeking to further its fund of knowledge concerning man's environment?

  Here are the shocking answers!

TODAY -- YOU live in the SPACE AGE! Few realize what it means -- where it's taking us!

Note: Even though this is speaking of events as far back as 1968 the observations and conclusions are amazingly accurate and the biblical aspects are even more thrilling for today’s world.

Is the Sky Falling on America?

chicken-little

The suicide-murders and roadside bombs in Iraq and Afghanistan sicken Americans. Soon-to-be nuclear Iran seems loonier than nuclear North Korea. American debt keeps piling up in China and Japan. And we think of angry Venezuela, the Middle East and Russia every time we fill up — if we can afford to fill up.

Then listen to Al Gore on global warming. Or hear Jimmy Carter on the current president. The common denominator is American "decline."

Books by liberals assure us that our "empire" is kaput. Brace for the inevitable fate of Rome. Conservatives are just as glum. For them, we are also Romans — but the more decadent variety, eaten away from the inside.

In response, many bored Americans turn instead to the la-la land of Britney Spears and Paris Hilton.

Antidepressants Slice & Dice Brain

brainImagine a lobotomy...A saw cracking your skull, followed by a surgical knife slicing and dicing a large portion of your brain - the portion responsible for helping you cope with all the nastiness in the world. You know, things like the exorbitant income tax which makes you work four months out of every year just to pay Uncle Sam. Or that invisible tax called inflation that ensures a lifetime of capitalistic slavery for you and your children. Or, the millions of helpless infants who are stabbed with vaccines and subsequently suffer from autism.

Without the ability to cope, a lobotomy would surely open the doors to all kinds of craziness from the nastiness in the world....depression, suicide, and murder become a reality...And this is exactly what an SSRI (antidepressant) can potentially do at the molecular level - remove that portion of your brain that helps you cope...Maybe that is what happened to 81 year old Jordan Stone.
