"The keyboard equals Kalashnikov"
(CNSNews.com) - "The keyboard equals Kalashnikov" is a popular new slogan among radical Islamic groups today, according to a recent report highlighting extremists' use of the Internet in spreading their message.
The expression, a reworking of "the pen is mightier than the sword," refers to the computer keyboard and the Russian assault rifle more commonly known as the AK47, popular among radical and terrorist groups for many decades.

The documentary, “What We Think”, provides a unique opportunity to find out what college age adults really think. In a series of rigorous interviews, six highly thoughtful and articulate young people give voice to an entire generation, discussing such diverse topics as the objectivity of morality, the meaning of life, religion, abortion, student cheating, women in combat, the death penalty, gay rights, the existence of the devil, racism, and democracy. What We Think was conceived to reveal the moral and intellectual revolution that has taken place in our society. The changes have been so gradual that many of us don't realize that we live in a society very different from that of our grandparents.' People have changed. Institutions have changed. Entertainment, education and public morality have changed. What We Think shows how today's ideas for living life are mostly tentative, experimental and temporary. The eternal verities that held sway over Western Civilization for over two millenia now belong to an isolated minority. Each individual is now left to find his own way in a wilderness of competing ideas. Society is no longer held together by previously shared values or ideas.
In 1885 Friedrich Nietzsche,realizing that this revolution had begun, wrote: "Nihilism stands at the door: whence comes this uncanniest of all guests?" Nietzsche said that the advent of modern nihilism was due to the passing of Christianity, the gradual unraveling of faith. He thought that morality would decline as Christianity declined. Those who view this video will have to decide for themselves whether Nietzsche was right.

Steep Cliffs on Mars
Vertical cliffs of nearly two kilometers occur near the North Pole of Mars. Also visible in the above image of the Martian North Polar Cap are red areas of rock and sand, white areas of ice, and dark areas of unknown composition but hypothesized to be volcanic ash. The cliffs are thought to border volcanic caldera. Although the sheer drop of the Martian cliffs is extreme, the drop is not as deep as other areas in our Solar System, including the 3.4-kilometer depth of Colca Canyon on Earth and the 20 kilometer depth of Verona Rupes on Uranus' moon Miranda. The above image, digitally reconstructed into a perspective view, was taken by the High Resolution Stereo Camera on board the ESA's robotic Mars Express spacecraft currently orbiting Mars.
 When China destroyed its own satellite, outrage — and debris — rapidly encircled the globe. Was the Sat Kill a policy weapon or the start of an arms race in space?
At 5:28 PM EST on Jan. 11, 2007, a satellite arced over southern China. It was small — just 6 ft. long — a tiny object in the heavens, steadily bleeping its location to ground stations below, just as it had every day for the past seven years. And then it was gone, transformed into a cloud of debris hurtling at nearly 16,000 mph along the main thoroughfare used by orbiting spacecraft.
It was not the start of the world's first war in space, but it could have been. It was just a test: The satellite was a defunct Chinese weather spacecraft. And the country that destroyed it was China. According to reports, a mobile launcher at the Songlin test facility near Xichang, in Sichuan province, lofted a multistage solid-fuel missile topped with a kinetic kill vehicle. Traveling nearly 18,000 mph, the kill vehicle intercepted the sat and — boom — obliterated it. "It was almost just a dead-reckoning flight with little control over the intercept path," says Phillip S. Clark, an independent British authority who has written widely on the Chinese and Russian space programs.

GLASGOW, Scotland — British police raided buildings near Glasgow and in central England and made a fifth arrest on Sunday, as the hunt intensified for suspects in the fiery attack on the Scottish city's airport and foiled car bombings in London.
The terrorist threat that Britain faces is "long-term and sustained," Prime Minister Gordon Brown said in a nationally televised interview. It is clear, he said, "that we are dealing, in general terms, with people who are associated with Al Qaeda."
 Russia has successfully tested a new, sea-based ballistic missile from a nuclear submarine, officials have said.
The weapon, capable of breaching anti-missile defence systems, flew almost the whole length of the country.
US plans to build a missile defence shield in Europe have angered Russia, which sees the proposal as a challenge to its influence in the region.

 The Syrian army has been mobilized and is digging defensive positions. Syrian military leaders have been meeting with Iranian military leaders to coordinate war preparations. The Russians and Chinese have been sending significant arms shipments to Syria, including advanced MiG-31 fighters, Chinese-made C-802 anti-ship missiles, Metis-M and Kornet anti-tank missiles (used to stop the Israeli offensive in Lebanon last year), and sophisticated anti-air missiles. A new generation of Russian weapons, fielded after the “collapse” of the Soviet Union, have strengthened Syria’s overall military position. It is not that Syria can defeat Israel in a ground war. It is a question of improved attrition capabilities. The Israeli military has a low tolerance for attrition.
The Syrians seem to expect an attack on their country. The Syrian government is allegedly moving sensitive state archives out of Damascus. Rockets are being sent to the Hezbollah militia in Lebanon. What is going on? Is a major terrorist strike being contemplated against Israel? Will this strike involve chemical, biological or nuclear weapons? Will this strike implicate Syria? Without a simultaneous Egyptian attack on Israel from the south, Syria cannot successfully make war on Israel from the north. And yet, Syria feels that war is coming. It’s as if the Syrians know something is going to happen. Some analysts believe the Syrians and Iranians are reacting to the U.S. troop surge in Iraq. There is talk of a new clandestine U.S. strategy of tilting against Iran and Syria, of favoring Sunni groups in Iraq. The Syrians and Iranians are allies, and might be worried about an American air campaign against them. The best strategy, in reaction, would be to begin a war against Israel. The Americans must not be perceived as working directly with the Israelis against a Muslim or Arab country. Such a perception might seriously erode America’s standing with Arab allies, and further hinder the Bush administration’s effort in Iraq.

Russia lays claim to the North Pole - and all its gas, oil, and diamonds
 Russian President Vladimir Putin is making an astonishing bid to grab a vast chunk of the Arctic - so he can tap its vast potential oil, gas and mineral wealth.
His scientists claim an underwater ridge near the North Pole is really part of Russia's continental shelf.
One newspaper printed a map of the "new addition", a triangle five times the size of Britain with twice as much oil as Saudi Arabia.
