WASHINGTON — The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has suppressed warnings from its own field workers about health problems experienced by hurricane evacuees living in government-provided trailers with levels of a toxic chemical 75 times the recommended maximum for U.S. workers, congressional lawmakers said Thursday.
A trail of e-mails obtained by investigators shows that the agency's lawyers rejected a proposal for systematic testing of the levels of potentially cancer-causing formaldehyde gas in the trailers out of concern that the agency would be legally liable for any hazards or health problems. As many as 120,000 families displaced by hurricanes Katrina and Rita lived in the suspect trailers, and hundreds have complained of ill effects.
Researchers say Muslim history includes cooking human victims
 Although the recent WND report of al-Qaida terrorists allegedly baking a young boy and serving him as a meal to his relatives was too horrific for some to believe, a major Christian ministry is citing another example – and also claims such a practice has its roots in the historical stories of Islam.
The issue has come into focus following a report from Michael Yon, a Special Forces soldier now in Iraq to report on the successes there. He told radio talk show host Hugh Hewitt he was inspired by a "news cycle that seems to pander toward the terrorists."

BOISE, Idaho — The nation's wildfire preparedness was raised to its highest level Thursday as dozens of new fires started in the bone-dry West, including one on the sprawling grounds of the Idaho National Laboratory.
 The West had been at level four for only a few weeks when officials decided to raise it to level five, effective Thursday.
"It's driven by a couple of things: The number of large fires we have, and also the fires are occurring in several states and in several geographic areas," said Randy Eardley, a spokesman for the National Interagency Fire Center. "The resources we have are being stretched thin."

 Across town from the site of the recent attempted car-bomb attacks, several thousand Muslims gathered in front of the London Central Mosque to applaud fiery preachers prophesying the overthrow of the British government – a future vision that encompasses an Islamic takeover of the White House and the rule of the Quran over America.
"One day my dear Muslims," shouted Anjem Choudary, "Islam will govern Britain!"
It was a good first step.
That is the opinion of analysts concerning the storming of the radical ‘Red Mosque’ in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, last Tuesday after an eight-day siege that resulted in the deaths of an estimated 80 people, including a dozen security personnel. To root out Islamic extremism in Pakistan, however, much more, they say, still has to be done to prevent this strategically important South Asian country from turning into a Taliban-like state.
The hundreds of radicals in the mosque, symbolically located only 400 meters from the offices of Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf who is also head of the armed forces, had consistently defied the government for years. They had kidnapped police officers and held them hostage for exchange whenever a mosque leader had been arrested and often hosted suspected Islamic militants and al-Qaeda terrorists, whose number may also have included the London subway bombers of July, 2005.
Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden has appeared in a video clip on a militant website, the first time he has been heard for more than a year.
But the clip, less than a minute long, is undated and correspondents say it may be re-run footage. Its authenticity also cannot be independently verified.

Manhattanhenge: A New York Sunset
Today, if it is clear, well placed New Yorkers can go outside at sunset and watch their city act like a modern version of Stonehenge. Manhattan will flood dramatically with sunlight just as the Sun sets precisely on the centreline of every street. Usually, the tall buildings that line the gridded streets of New York City's tallest borough will hide the setting Sun. This effect makes Manhattan a type of modern Stonehenge, although only aligned to about 30 degrees east of north. Were Manhattan's road grid perfectly aligned to east and west, today's effect would occur on the Vernal and Autumnal Equinox, March 21 and September 21, the only two days that the Sun rises and sets due east and west. Pictured above in this horizontally stretched image, the Sun sets down 34th Street as viewed from Park Avenue. If today's sunset is hidden by clouds do not despair -- the same thing happens twice each year, in late May and mid July. On none of these occasions, however, should you ever look directly at the Sun.

Hamas TV introduced a new children's character intended to inspire future extremists and suicide bombers with Nahoul the Bee.
In a television skit, the character vows to continue the work of his cousin, Farfour the mouse, in following in the 'path of Islam, of heroism, of martyrdom.'

 BREAKING NEWS: Weapon Found On Jersey City Lawn, In Flight Path Of Newark Airport
(CBS) JERSEY CITY A Jersey City woman made a shocking discovery on her lawn this morning when she noticed a military rocket launcher lying in the grass.
Niranjana Besai was leaving her house, located at 88 Nelson Street, to go to work just after 8 this morning when she spotted the launcher on her front lawn. "I read it and it [said] 'missile,'" Besai told CBS 2 HD. "There was little 'missile' [writing] on it."
Believers in Jesus said to be nailed to crosses, tied with ropes, set ablaze
 Christians in Iraq, including converts from Islam and people involved in mixed-faith marriages, are being crucified by Muslim terrorists, according to a Dutch member of Parliament studying the war-torn country.
Several Iraqi Christians "are nailed to a cross and their arms are tied up with ropes. The ropes are put on fire," Joel Voordewind told BosNewsLife, an online news agency focusing on Christians and Jews in difficult circumstances.
(IsraelNN.com) The IDF Deputy Commander of the Northern Command during the Second Lebanon War says Israel is learning from last summer and preparing for war.
Speaking at a Monday conference at the Institute for National Security Studies in Tel Aviv, Gen. (res.) Eyal Ben-Reuven said the IDF is learning the mistakes of last summer's war and is preparing for a comprehensive war. Ben-Reuven said the war in Lebanon was justified, but turned out "bad" for Israel both militarily and politically. "It is not good that we failed," he said.
A contract worker was arrested Thursday for attempting to sell nuclear secrets from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, federal law enforcement officials told FOX News.
 Roy Lynn Oakley, 67, is expected to appear at a federal court in Knoxville, Tenn., at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Oakley was named in a yet-to-be unsealed indictment and worked as a low-level contractor for Bechtel Jacobs Co. at the East Tennessee Technology Lab, a cleanup site that once housed the government's gaseous diffusion plant used to enrich uranium for nuclear weapons.
 TOKYO: A 6.8-magnitude earthquake rocked Japan's northwest coast on Monday, killing at least two people. The quake injured more than 260 people, flattened dozens of wooden buildings and triggered a fire at a nuclear power plant.
Fire sirens could be heard in hard-hit Kashiwazaki city, and older buildings were reduced to piles of lumber. National broadcaster NHK reported more than 260 people were hurt, with injuries including broken bones, cuts and bruises.
Iran asked Japanese refiners to switch to the yen to pay for all crude oil purchases, after Iran's central bank said it is reducing holdings of the U.S. dollar.
Iran wants yen-based transactions ``for any/all of your forthcoming Iranian crude oil liftings,'' according to a letter sent to Japanese refiners that was signed by Ali A. Arshi, general manager of crude oil marketing and exports in Tehran at the National Iranian Oil Co. The request is for all shipments ``effective immediately,'' according to the letter, dated July 10 and obtained by Bloomberg News.
The yen rose on speculation for an increase in demand for the currency, the result of Japan's annual 1.24 trillion yen ($10.1 billion) of oil imports from Iran. Central bankers in Venezuela, Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates have said they will invest less of their reserves in dollar assets because of the weakening currency.

 Many question why individuals located in or raised in the freedoms of the West would ever want to engage in terrorism. What would make someone who had seen all of the good things freedom has to offer, turn against that freedom? When consulting with and training law enforcement I point out that often, members of terror groups are professional and very well educated. Terror organizations purposely encourage recruits to become learned, particularly in hard sciences, so that they can understand Western technology and use it against the enemy. Every facet of the enemy should be contemplated, absorbed, and repackaged for use by the terror group. Thus, it was not surprising that the latest terror plot in Europe involved doctors. Anyone can be recruited into a terror organization as long as the individual has the right mindset. Whether one is African American, Caucasian, Hispanic, professional or blue collar, male or female, young or old, the terror draw is always dependent upon the individual’s personality.
Simply, the basic concepts for terror motivation include identity and injury.

Putin chairing a Security Council meeting Saturday, the day his decree to pull out of the CFE Treaty was released.
In a decision that threatens to raise tensions with the West, President Vladimir Putin declared over the weekend that Russia would suspend cooperation on a key European arms control treaty signed in the closing years of the Cold War.
Putin's decree, posted Saturday on the Kremlin's web site, says Russia will suspend its obligations under the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe after 150 days due to "exceptional circumstances affecting the security of the Russian Federation and requiring immediate action."
